Maryland State Police Troopers and Crash Team members responded to the scene of a collision on Eastbound Rock Point Road in Charles County, just west of Cobb Island Road on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at around 12:45 p.m. The collision was so severe that the services of two Maryland medivac helicopters were required.
As reported by Southern Maryland News Net, according to the Maryland State Police preliminary investigation, a Mercury Sable was headed west on Rock Point Road when the driver lost control of the car. The car left the road and then skidded over the double yellow line and into oncoming traffic. There the car was hit by a Toyota Camry whose driver was headed eastbound on Rock Point Road. Two toddlers, ages one and two, were passengers in the Mercury. Toyota had two adult occupants.
The two-year-old was transported to Washington D.C.’s Children’s Hospital with serious life-threatening injuries by Maryland State Police medivac helicopter Trooper 7. The mother and the one-year-old child were taken to Washington Hospital Center by Trooper 6. Their injuries were considered serious but not life-threatening.
A detailed investigation of the collision is currently ongoing. Charges in the incident are pending the investigation’s completion by Maryland State Police.
