Three vehicle accidents on Interstate 95 in Harford County this past Saturday resulted in multiple delays and numerous injuries. The affected part of I-95 was between the exits for MD 152 and MD 543.
The first accident was reported by the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company at 3:12 pm and involved a tractor-trailer that jackknifed on I-95 south and then went into the woods. The Harford County hazmat team and the Maryland Department of the Environment did extensive cleanup including pumping diesel fuel from the truck. One man was hospitalized after being transported to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Trauma Center to be treated for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. Maryland State Police are investigating the incident.
Just minutes later at 3:21pm, a five-vehicle accident occurred on I-95 south at mile marker 72.5. The accident included a tour bus among the vehicles and 4 people were transported to hospitals in the area to be treated for injuries.
Again, just minutes later at 3:23 pm, a third multi-vehicle crash occurred less than two miles away in the vicinity of mile marker 74.1 on I-95 south. This collision happened on the fast shoulder and fortunately, only one person had to be taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries. Those injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
